Upon stumbling upon a mystical mask housing the essence of the Norse god Loki, the unassuming bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss undergoes a profound transformation. Draped in the mask, Ipkiss metamorphoses into a supernatural charmer exuding charisma and self-assurance, catching the attention of the local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle. Regrettably, the mask's influence leads Ipkiss to commit a bank robbery, infuriating the young crime lord Dorian Tyrell, whose henchmen are wrongfully implicated in the heist.
